Studio IDC - Cap Maison - Hero

Cap Maison, St. Lucia

Cap Maison is a boutique resort on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia with a distinctive Mediterranean-inspired village-style layout that harmonizes with its natural surroundings. The resort was originally designed by Studio IDC in 2008. In 2022, we were approached for the redesign, which included a renovation of the resort’s 49 villas (a mix of two- and three-bedroom suites spread across 22 buildings) and the resort’s lobby.

The renovation focused on replacing heavy elements with softer wood tones and lighter furnishings. For example, where they once had heavy mahogany chairs, our team incorporated rattan. We also added gentle draperies and sheers to diffuse the sunlight, softening the spaces within. Carved headboards with Moroccan-influenced patterns add a touch of elegance, while wallcoverings and printed fabrics infuse an airy feeling. We also wanted to merge the indoor and outdoor living areas, so we moved each suite’s main dining table to the terrace, allowing guests to dine alfresco and opening up the interior spaces for lounging and gathering.

For the lobby redesign, warm terra-cotta Venetian plaster creates a welcoming ambiance, while custom wooden reception desks featuring intricate carvings add sophistication. The furnishings were carefully curated for comfort, making it the ideal place to linger and unwind.
