Cap Maison, a luxury resort on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, selected our team to undertake its recent renovation project. Back in 2008, we enjoyed working with the owners on the original design, and we were excited to give the resort a new look while maintaining its essence.
When walking into Cap Maison, you can’t help but be drawn in by the village aspect of the location and architecture. The spaces have a distinct Central American vibe with unexpected moments to experience at every turn. Our goal was to retain the resort’s unique charm while incorporating modern elements. To do that, we focused on using lighter wood tones and furnishings to create a fresh, inviting atmosphere that would enhance the overall guest experience by combining sophistication and comfort.
The Cliff at Cap
The Cliff at Cap, known for being one of St. Lucia’s most romantic restaurants, underwent a remarkable transformation. We aimed to enhance the existing structure by capitalizing on the breathtaking views and creating a more inviting atmosphere.
Inspired by the trunk of a grand tree holding the restaurant atop the mountain, the newly designed bar area features emerald green tiles, deep green quartz countertops, and natural wood shelving with concealed LED lighting. Rattan furnishings, cobalt blue bar stools, and nautical influences, in addition to expanded verandas and new roof structures, contribute to the casually elegant island ambiance.
Lobby
Cap Maison’s newly renovated lobby blends old and new elements. For example, warm terra-cotta Venetian plaster sets a welcoming tone, while custom wood reception desks featuring intricate carvings add sophistication. The lounge area now offers a fusion of traditional and modern styles with furnishings chosen for comfort and elegance.
Guest Suites
The guest suites, which range from one to three bedrooms, received a makeover with a light, soft ambiance inspired by contemporary Spanish-Mediterranean style. Artwork in the living areas was created by an Australian artist and executed in three colorways, giving each room a unique, collected feel. It was important to our designers to seamlessly merge the indoor and outdoor living areas, so we moved each suite’s main dining table to the terrace, allowing guests to dine alfresco and opening up the interior spaces for lounging and gathering with family during the day. In the redesigned sleeping spaces, we featured gentle draperies to diffuse the Caribbean sunlight. We selected cerused oak four-poster beds in the primary bedrooms and a combination of custom-carved and upholstered headboards offset by custom wallcoverings.
